John-William-Nelson Corporate Management | UTAC Group

W. John Nelson, Ph.D.

John joined UTAC in October 2012 with more than 30 years of experience in the semiconductor industry.

From 2007 to 2012, John was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ON Semiconductor. He oversaw the company's world-wide manufacturing, quality, world-class supply chain and information technology operations. Under his leadership, the company doubled its revenues to US$3 billion. He successfully streamlined its global manufacturing operations which included the consolidation of numerous front-end and back-end facilities and the integration of nine corporate acquisitions which involved complicated broad-scope production transfers.

From 2002 to 2007, John was the Chief Executive Officer of 1st Silicon, a wafer foundry in Malaysia. He successfully built up a diverse customer base and turned the business to breakeven. John was instrumental in selling the company to X-FAB Foundry.

From 1990 to 2002, John served in several executive positions in General Instrument/General Semiconductor, including Chief Operations Officer and President of the company's Asia-Pacific operations.

John's industry experience also includes key positions at Unitrode, Fairchild Semiconductor and Analog Devices.

John has a Bachelor of Science degree with honours and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland.

Shawn Corporate Management | UTAC Group

Shawn L. Kelly

Shawn joined UTAC in January 2015 and heads the group's corporate finance function. He has more than 15 years of experience as a financial manager in the semiconductor industry. He was VP of Finance for UTAC from 2015 to 2017, leading operations finance. Prior to joining UTAC, he held various financial management and controller positions at Intel from 2001 to 2014. Most of his career at Intel was spent supporting fab and assembly/test manufacturing, including two years in Malaysia as the controller for the global outsourced manufacturing group.


Shawn holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Operations from the College of William & Mary.

Janice Wong Hsiao Yun

Janice joined UTAC in July 2015 and has years of corporate transactions and finance experience with a leading Singapore law firm as well as a top US law firm based in Singapore. Prior to joining UTAC, Janice accumulated in-house experience working for the Singapore office of a leading Japanese investment bank.


Janice holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the National University of Singapore and was called to Singapore Bar as well as the Roll of Solicitors of England and Wales.

K. Thiveanathan

Thiveanathan (Thivi) joined UTAC in July 2013 with more than 24 years of HR leadership experience with reputable MNCs. Since 2007, he was the HR Director of Coca-Cola Bottling Operations based in Singapore. He guided people and change programs when Coke went through major business turn around with the loss of its F&N franchise, and pioneered the establishment of Coke's bottling operations in Malaysia. Before Coke, Thivi was the ASEAN HR Director of Goodyear, where he set-up its regional HR functions. Prior to this, as 1st Silicon's HR Director, he facilitated organizational restructuring, re-alignment of HR functions and subsequently facilitated its merger with X-Fab (Germany). Thivi was the winner of "2006 - HR Leader Award" in Malaysia.


Thivi holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from National University of Malaysia and an MBA from Charles Sturt University, Australia.

jeffrey-r-osmun Corporate Management | UTAC Group

Jeffrey R. Osmun

Jeffrey (Jeff) joined UTAC in January 2013 and leads the group's worldwide sales. He has more than 25 years of international experience working with sales, marketing, operations and technology organizations predominately in the semiconductor industry in a business-to-business consultative sales environment. Prior to joining UTAC, Jeff was a senior vice president of sales and marketing for Generated Materials Recovery, an environmental and sustainability services company, from 2010 to 2012. From 2006 to 2009, he held executive leadership positions at White Electronic Designs Corp (now a division of Microsemi Corporation) and ASAT Ltd. From 1999 to 2006, Jeff was the executive vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for STATS and subsequently STATS ChipPAC Ltd., and from 1985 to 1999, he held various executive leadership positions at Kyocera America. Jeff is a member of the Board of Directors of the Arizona Manufacturer's Council.


Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University.

asif-howdhury Corporate Management | UTAC Group

Asif R. Chowdhury

Asif joined UTAC in March 2014 and heads the group's product line and marketing function. He has more than 20 years of experience in managing business units, business development, process engineering, design, research and development, and strategic sourcing in the semiconductor industry and related fields. Prior to joining UTAC, Asif was working with Analog Devices Inc. and based in Wilmington, Massachusetts where he was in charge of its MEMS package development and assembly engineering, and strategic sourcing for assembly and test.


Asif holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University. He also has a Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in Finance from Northeastern University.

regina-liew-chui-wan Corporate Management | UTAC Group

Regina Liew Chui Wan

Regina joined UTAC Singapore in January 2009 with more than 18 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. She has accumulated extensive experience in areas covering materials management, planning, procurement, customer service and supply chain in various companies including Elbiru Electronics, Creative Technology and Philips Singapore. Prior to joining UTAC, she was the senior vice president for corporate materials and supply chain management in STATS ChipPAC.

Regina holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from University of South Australia.

Darren C. Smith

Darren joined UTAC in October 2014 with more than 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry spanning across Quality, Operations, Outsourcing, Process and; Equipment and Technology. Prior to joining UTAC, Darren had held diverse key leadership positions, most recently as Head of Outsourced Manufacturing Operations at Philips Lumileds in the United States and Vice President of Quality and Customer Care, Worldwide. Darren was based in Singapore for two years when he was the Regional Zero Defect and Quality Director with Philips Lumileds.

frank-myers Corporate Management | UTAC Group

Frank R. Myers, Ph.D.

Frank joined UTAC in March 2013 and heads the group's operations with over 25 years of experience in the semiconductor and bioscience industries. He began his career at Motorola Semiconductor and went on to serve key management roles in Amersham Biosciences, GE Healthcare, and ON Semiconductor. Frank's experience includes technology development, factory construction and start-up, quality systems, program management, engineering management, and manufacturing operations management. Prior to joining to UTAC, he was a senior director of program management at ON Semiconductor and was responsible for driving the top revenue growth, technology development, cost reduction, and post mergers and acquisition integration programs..


Frank graduated from Arizona State University with B.S.E., M.S., and Ph.D. Degrees in Chemical Engineering.

Ken Shibata

Ken joined UTAC in November 2014 with more than 30 years of broad experience in the semiconductor industry. He heads sales and operations of UMS - an entity that holds the backend assets acquired from Panasonic in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia in June 2014. Prior to joining UTAC, Ken was the Sales Vice President of Amkor Technology Japan where he was instrumental in expanding Amkor's customer base and sales in Japan over the last 10 years. Ken started his assembly process engineer career in 1980 and served in several key management positions with Hitachi Semiconductor Europe GmbH and Hitachi Hokkai Semiconductor (now J-Devices Semiconductor Hakodate Center) from 1980 to 2000.


Ken holds a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Organic Chemistry from National Institute of Technology, Hakodate College.
